Entropy is an experimental adventure game in which the player grapples between flying cubes to ascend to new galaxies. It features exciting grappling movement, a dynamic soundtrack that matches the movement of the cubes through space, and a continuous play experience with no death state. The game was developed by a three person team for the Ludum Dare 49 game jam before being updated and released on Steam. Learn more and play Entropy at the Entropy Store Page. The game currently has 170+ 95% positive reviews on Steam.
My Contributions
I brainstormed and designed the original game concept and core mechanics of grappling through an abstract space environment, finding a new spin on the game jam theme, "Unstable".
I programmed the core level mechanic: the cubes, following a musical beat, move up into space and spread out over time, making it harder and harder for the player to stay afloat.
I programmed the game flow features such as the level progression and resets.
I composed and implemented the dynamic soundtrack and created core game sound effects.
Community
Upon release, Entropy was met with a surprising amount of community engagement. In addition to our positive reviews, a small speed running community formed around the game with players from Australia and China. Additionally, a video essay was made and released by a community using our game to explain the concept of entropy in physics. The reigning world record and video essay are below.
